You can often find a policy online that costs less than what you would get if you go through a travel agent, but check with your travel agent as well to make sure that this is the case for the type of insurance you are looking for.

When choosing a policy, you should also look into how the company treats pre-existing conditions. Many companies will exclude these conditions from your cover, so you will have to pay out of pocket if your troubles while you are travelling are a result of one of these conditions. The policy will still cover any other unfortunate events that occur, but it would be a good idea to carefully check out what is covered before you choose the policy, as some policies might cover more than others or have higher deductibles, which may be called excesses.
