What to Know About the Phlebotomy Test

There are many things that a person needs to know before taking the phlebotomy test. Before a person can take the test they need to take the required courses, and pass with a C or higher. The courses are offered at red cross locations and some community colleges. You will also need to fulfill the required about of clinical lab hours.

Many people have misconceptions about the phlebotomy test. Most people think all that needs to be done is show that they are able to successfully perform a blood withdrawal. Unfortunately it's not that easy. That's why you are required to fulfill clinical requirements to prove you are capable of blood withdrawal.

There are many books that can be purchased to help study for the phlebotomy test. There won't be anything on the test that was not covered in the phlebotomy course. The best way to study could be with a group of students that took the phlebotomy course with you. The materials given to you during the class will be useful in the studying process for the phlebotomy test.

To take the phlebotomy test a person needs to register and pay of the test online prior to taking it. A person can't just show up at a test site and expect to take the test. Once a person registers they will be given a few dates and times to choose from. Once you have chosen a date you need to keep it. If a person does not attend the test date and time they chose they will forfeit the money paid, and will have to pay for the test again.

On the day of the test a person will need to have photo identification otherwise the test will not be able to be taken on that day. No cell phones or other electronic devices are allowed in the testing centers. Calculators will be provided on the question that you are able to use them on. Cheating will result in failure of the test.

The test is conducted on a computer and will consist of multiply choice questions. The number of questions you will be asked depends on the questions that you answer right or not. If you answer a question wrong it is likely there will be a question of that sort asked again to assure you are aware of the material.

Upon completion of the test the grade will be given. If you received lower than a 75 you will be required to take the test again. To take the test again you will need to wait a certain time period depending on state requirements. You will also need to pay for the test again. The test is able to be taken as many times as needed.

Once you have completed the Phlebotomy test and passed it you will get your certification card in the mail a few weeks later. Once you received your certification card you will be able to show it to future employers at interviews as proof of your certification. You may still apply for phlebotomy jobs prior to taking the phlebotomy test but you will not be able to start the job if hired until completion of the test.
